What is Dressmaker?

Dressmaker (the game) is a cozy dressmaking simulation developed by Cozy Lives and published by Free Lives, the South African studio behind Broforce, GORN and Terra Nil. It recreates the real craft of making a dress: choose a fabric, arrange and cut the pattern pieces — aligned to the grain or cut on the bias — sew them together on a vintage-style machine, then finish everything by hand with buttons, bows, appliqué and lace trims.

Around the craft sits a shop: townsfolk commission dresses with individual measurements, personal tastes and a calendar of special events, and every delivered dress earns reputation and coin that unlock new fabrics and accessories at the emporium. The game grew out of a free prototype that passed 155,000 downloads (June 2026 count) and a Steam wishlist that passed 200,000 (official devlog, July 28, 2026).

It releases on September 21, 2026 for PC and Mac on Steam. Steam appdetails on September 14, 2026 lists English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, each with full audio. No real-life sewing knowledge is needed; the official presskit says exactly that.
